Good News Story Time!
*Jabalbina Rangers Join Reef Restoration Workshop and Survey*
Last month, Jabalbina’s Sea Ranger crew recently took part in the Rubble Surveying Workshop as part of the Reef Restoration & Adaptation Program (RRAP). Led by experts Dr. Tania (UQ), Dr. Catherine, and Dr. Tanya (QUT), the workshop gave the team a chance to learn about reef rubble and learn how important it is to monitor it for reef health.
The next day, the crew set out to Rudder, Opal, and Batt Reefs near Port Douglas, with additional Jabalbina staff attending to see the Rangers in action. They put their workshop knowledge to the test, surveying rubble at various reef sites—checking how much rubble there was, what was growing on it, and what might have caused it.
This hands-on experience helped the team contribute directly to reef restoration efforts and continue building their skills to protect the Great Barrier Reef for future generations.

Cultural Camp - Jabalbina x Bloomfield River State School
November 13th – 14th 2024
To start off the short but sweet cultural camp, we had an awesome morning down the beach, on country with elders, rangers, and Apunipima. All students were involved in a beach clean-up, damper making with elders and a seascape art session. Then to finish off the day, we headed back to the Bloomfield River State School for a slip & slide, snuck in a bit of corroboree and ended the night with a school sleepover.
The next morning everyone travelled into Wujal to participate in a cultural community day. This was held at the recreation hall with many inclusive activities including weaving, jewelry making, beading, nature art, face painting, arts & crafts and another slip & slide to cool off.
A huge thank you to Talika, Saisha and their Jabalbina Team, Apunipima, Wujal Council, CDCC, Wujal Police, Baja Baja staff, Wujal Elders Justice as well as the amazing team at Bloomfield River State School and those who were also involved in making these couple days enjoyable for the kids and community. ...
