Donate to support Jabalbina Rangers FNQ Flood Appeal and Disaster Recovery

Eastern Kuku Yalanji people and the broader community of Wujal Wujal, Rossville, Shipton’s Flat and Mossman have had their lives and homes torn apart. Flood waters that followed Tropical Cyclone Jasper rose rapidly exceeding the 100 year flood level by over 10 meters in Wujal Wujal and the surrounding area.

Elders and family members had to wait for days before military helicopters could even land in the community to evacuate them. Sadly they have left behind their beloved traditional lands, homes and pets to become refugees for what is expected to be up to 6 months. Community members in the south in the Mossman region have also lost everything with many homes and infrastructure destroyed.

Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation represents and supports Eastern Kuku Yalanji people and has been integral to the response to the disaster. The Jabalbina Rangers are providing assistance throughout the areas hit by the floods. Preparations are under way to engage Eastern Kuku Yalanji youth effected by the disaster to massively increase the Jabalbina Ranger workforce on the ground where it is most needed in supporting Elders and the clean up and rebuild.

Your donation will provide much needed workforce and employment, equipment and support for the community through Jabalbina who are best placed to engage directly with those effected. This will mean that the community can heal from this disaster by taking control of the recovery directly themselves.

Jabalbina will continue to assess and respond to where this support is most needed in consultation with our Clan Elders Groups.
